Steven Rose

Steven Rose has worked in services for people with learning disabilities since the early 1970s. After 17 years in the NHS, starting as a Nursing Assistant and finishing as a Director of Nursing, Steven joined Choice Support as its Chief Executive; a post he has now held for twenty years.

Steven has led Choice Supports' development from an organisation with 11 employees and a £1 million turnover to become one of the larger charitable providers in the UK receiving over £40 million per annum to employ approximately 1700 to support over 950 people.

During this period he has led and encouraged a wide range of innovations that has kept Choice Support at the forefront of finding new and better ways of improving the lifestyles of some of societies most vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens.

Choice Support is currently redesigning and reconfiguring everything it does and aims to be the first large social care organisation in the UK to undertake a total conversion in the light of the ongoing personalisation agenda.

Both Steven and Choice Support have close ties to the Centre for Welfare Reform and share a vision of a fairer society with a more equitable distribution of welfare benefits through a system that is designed to hand over control from the state to the individual.

Steven is a founder member and Director of the Association for Supported Living, a Director of Housing Options and the interim Chair of the Campaign for a Fair Society.

Steven lives with his partner Claire Wiltsher who is a landscape artist they share interests in mountaineering, long distance walking, skiing and travel to remote places.
